Thomas Wilkins leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic as they see in the season in style, performing Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn's swinging, jazz re-imagining Tchaikovsky's timeless Nutcracker Suite composition for ballet! The Russian composer is by no means sidelined though, with his gorgeous, snow blanketed first symphony, Winter Daydreams, headlining a festive program to remember.
As well as heralding in the festivities with these timeless works, the orchestra will also open the performance with the excellent Four Black American Dances by Grammy-nominated composer and activist Carlos Simon, which moves through four movements based on dances deeply intertwined with Black American history - Ring Shout, Waltz, Tap Dance and Holy Dance.
