Finnish composer Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra through his mesmerizing 2014 composition Karawane at the Walt Disney Concert Hall! Originally commissioned by an orchestral consortium consisting of the New York Philharmonic, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Tonhalle Orchester Zurich, the piece is inspired by the avant-garde Dada art movement of the early 20th Century and more specifically the poem "Latpoetse/Sound Poetry" from Hugo Ball's Dada Manifesto.
As well as Karawane audiences will be treated to a rendition of Ravel's 1912 choreographic symphony Daphnis and Chloe, based on the ancient Greek story of the same name. Performing alongside the orchestra will be the Los Angeles Master Chorale, directed by Grant Gershon and assistant Jenny Wong.
