Los Angeles Philharmonic - Haim Leads Handel and Bach

Why see Los Angeles Philharmonic - Haim Leads Handel and Bach?

Baroque Brilliance

Conductor Emmanuelle Haim takes charge of the Los Angeles Philharmonic who, along with her ensemble Le Concert d'Astree, will collaborate to perform two shining examples of Baroque music, in Handel's Dixit Dominus and Bach's Magnificat. Haim and her ensemble are world leaders in Baroque performances today, highly acclaimed by Gramophone and others for their handling of these two composers' works.

Composed in 1707, Handel's Dixit Dominus is a virtuosic setting of Psalm 110 composed during his time in Italy, which blends fiery choral intensity with intricate counterpoint and a thrilling sense of Grandeur. Bach's Magnificat meanwhile is a radiant setting of the Virgin Mary's song of praise, originally composed in 1723. It showcases Bach's mastery of dynamic contrasts and expressive word-painting, making it one of his most celebrated sacred works.
