Three classical music superstars perform Esmail's new work
Three superstars of classical music come together to perform a brand new work by Indian-American composer Reena Esmail at Walt Disney Concert Hall! Celebrity American violinist Hilary Hahn, award-winning South Korean pianist Yekwon Sunwoo, and four time Grammy-nominated baritone vocalist Matthias Goerne will perform Esmail's new piece commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, which serves as a meeting point between Western and Indian classical traditions.
Once named Gramophone magazine's Artist of the Year, Grammy-winning violinist Hilary Hahn has become one of the most sought-after artists of our era, with years of extensive international performances and recording activities. An impressive history with many of the worlds greatest orchestras preceded her career as a soloist, and her recordings regularly find themselves on feature films, including the Oscar-nominated The Village and the 2011 drama The Deep Blue Sea starring Golden Globe award-winners Tom Hiddleston and Rachel Weisz.
Born in Anyang, South Korea, by age 15 Yekwon Sunwoo had already debuted with orchestras in Seoul, soon after which he moved to America to study at the Curtis Institute and then Julliard. Since then he has never looked back, signing with Universal Music, sweeping up gold medals or first prizes at prestigious competitions including the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and the International German Piano Award, and appearing with many of the world's greatest orchestras.
Baritone Matthias Goerne is one of the world's foremost opera performers, appearing in productions with many prestigious opera institutions across the globe, and in concert with famed orchestras. Among his slew of accolades are BBC Music Awards and Gramophone Awards, as well as four Grammy nominations. Despite his operatic prowess, he has often been critical of the over-performance of classic operas, believing that many have become out of date and not relevant to the society of today.
