Los Angeles Philharmonic - Minimalist Icons: Philip Glass

Why see Los Angeles Philharmonic - Minimalist Icons: Philip Glass?

Glass' Concerto And Symphony

Ingenious contemporary composer Philip Glass is internationally recognized as a champion of the musical minimalist movement, yet his output also includes those in the traditional classical forms equally as beautiful as anything else in the canon. His Violin Concerto No. 1 was written with the goal of creating music his father would enjoy; in a fitting tribute, the first three notes also happen to be D, A, D! Meanwhile, his latest work, Symphony No. 15, celebrates president Abraham Lincoln and his commitment to abolishing slavery. The LA Philharmonic performs both of these in a sublime evening honoring the icon.

Philip Glass is one of the world's most influential contemporary classical composers, while his collaborative approach to writing has successfully bridged the gap between American classical and pop music. The avant-garde savant has written the score for over 50 movies and collaborated with likes of David Bowie, Woody Allen and Allen Ginsberg.
