Los Angeles Philharmonic - Bach and Mendelssohn at Hollywood Bowl

Why see Los Angeles Philharmonic - Bach and Mendelssohn?

Bach with an expert

Los Angeles Philharmonic takes the audience on a trip through the works of Bach and Mendelssohn, led by the most fitting man for the job in Japanese conductor Masaaki Suzuki. Suzuki is one of the world's foremost experts on the works of Bach, having founded Japan's Bach Collegium in 1990 and continuing as its musical director to this day. He conducts the LA Phil through two seminal pieces, in Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3 and Violin Concerto in E Major, before closing with Mendelssohn's joyful Fourth Symphony.

Orchestral Suite No. 3 is perhaps one of the most famous pieces of classical music, with the "Air on the G String" section today transcending into everyday consciousness even outside of classical music aficionados. The Violin Concerto will feature Martin Chalifour, Principal Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, whilst Mendelssohn's Fourth beautifully demonstrates the composer's love of Italy like an aural painting.
