Widely recognized as one of the pioneering acts of alt-metal, the band is credited for the mainstream exposure of the alternative scene in the 1990s after emerging from the LA glam metal and goth scene of the late Eighties and early Nineties. They are also credited for influencing a number of well-known and enduring rock acts including Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana (under Cobain) and even metal-heads System of a Down.
