UNDERSTANDING ALZHEIMER’S FROM A DIFFERENT VIEWPOINT
We saw The Father on Opening night at the Playhouse. I did not know the subject matter until about five minutes in to the play and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I spent the next 90 minutes watching what I experience with my mom but from her viewpoint. The play was so insightful and incredible and painful at the same time. It hit me in my heart and yet opened up an ever better understanding of the life and frustrations of an Alzheimer’s patient. I will admit I cried during most of the play but I left the theater in awe of the ability of the writers and actors to create such a beautiful performance. This play was so powerful and I hope it helps all of us understand the frustration and agony suffered not only by Alzheimer’s patients but also their caregivers and family members.
