An evening of strings
An evening of strings
Why see Los Angeles Philharmonic - Mendelssohn and Sibelius?
Something wonderful
The Romantic era is center stage in this intimate chamber concert from the Los Angeles Philharmonic that celebrates two masters at from each end of the period - Felix Mendelssohn and Jean Sibelius with some of their most delicate and personal pieces.
The evening begins with two of Mendelssohn's String Quartets - No.6, Op 80 and No.4 Op.44 No.2. The former, composed as requiem for his sister Fanny, would go to on to be his last major work. Rounding off the affair is Sibelius' own work for strings "Voces Inimae". Meaning inner voices, the composer declared in a letter to his wife that this quietly expressive work 'turned out as something wonderful'.
