Why see Los Angeles Philharmonic - Joe Hisaishi and La Mer?
STUDIO GHIBLI ICON LEADS LA PHIL
One of Japan's most celebrated and prolific modern composers, Joe Hisaishi, leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl this summer through a program of some of his best loved work, as well as a stunning finale of Debussy's La Mer. Synonymous with the films of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, Hisaishi has composed the soundtrack for many of the revered studio's feature film animations, including Princess Mononoke, Porco Rosso, My Neighbour Totoro and Academy Award winner Spirited Away amongst others.
Hisaishi is a master of multiple genres including European classical, Japanese traditional, ambient electronic and minimalist music, yet brings them all together under a truly distinctive signature sound. In this performance with the LA Phil he'll take the orchestra through Merry-Go-Round from Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke Suite and also some of his own original compositions, before finishing the evening with La Mer.
