An expansive, freewheeling rampage, ideas flying out like sparks from a roaring fire, as Spalding, Lovano and Genovese all charmed the room with their gregarious solo work, all held together by DeJohnette's deliciously light touch.

The ultimate modern jazz supergroup - DeJohnette, Spalding, Lovano & Genovese
If ever there was a supergroup that could create as much of a stir as Miles Davis' Kind Of Blue collective in the heyday of modal jazz (Coltrane, Adderley, Evans and Chambers amongst others), the Spring Quartet is its modern counterpart answer. Comprised of NEA Jazz Master Fellowship drummer Jack DeJohnette, four-time Grammy-winning bass-toting songstress Esperanza Spalding, Grammy-winning saxophonist Joe Lovano and Argentinian virtuoso pianist Leonardo Genovese, the tour-de-force outfit is lauded for their improvisational empathy, technical genius and jaw-dropping genre-bending.
Wether turning recognisable musical phrases during songbook covers and standards or fiercely blazing trails with their dazzling solo and collective improv, the quartet's palpable passion make them a stand-out gig for both jazz aficionados and casual listeners of the genre. Reputations aside, there's no pomp or ceremony when they take to the stage, they simply let the music do the talking.
