Why see Sondheim & Jazz: Side by Side?
Jazzed Up Over Sondheim
Pianists and arrangers Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes present their jazzy take on Stephen Sondheim's remarkable body of work, with the help of singer Ann Hampton Calloway. Backed by the LA Philharmonic, this trio will perform their intelligent arrangements of some of Sondheim's greatest numbers, from 'Send in the Clowns' to 'The Ladies Who Lunch'.
A show previously performed to great acclaim at Carnegie Hall, it's a wonderful interpretation of an American master, whose jazz influence has so often been overlooked. The evening will be led off by pianist Dave Grusin's interpretation of West Side Story.
