Why see Girl From The North Country?

Ready to Capture North America's Heart

After a Tony-nominated run on Broadway and five-time Olivier award-nominated run in London, this critically acclaimed Public Theater production is headed out on tour! Conor McPherson's (book and director) Girl From The North Country features the music of Bob Dylan, and tells the story of one small town in Minnesota who are left reeling from the Great Depression.

In this spellbinding and exquisite musical we dive beneath Dylan's iconic work and discover the extraordinary characters that inspired him. Featuring songs like "Hurricane", "Tight Connection To My Heart" and the titular "Girl From The North Country" this ethereal and folksy tuner will transport you to Depression-era Duluth, where we meet a boarding house owner on the edge of ruin and the citizens of the town who flock to it. Some are there for the long haul, some are there fleetingly, but within each lies equal measures of tragedy, hope, and humanity.

With heart-wrenching stories fused with goose-bump-inducing arrangements, Girl From The North Country is sure to capture your heart.

From London To America!

Debuting at London's prestigious Old Vic Theatre in the summer of 2017, Girl From The North Country transferred to the Noel Coward Theatre in London's West End in early 2018. Garnering five Olivier Award nominations, including Best New Musical and Outstanding Achievement in Music, Girl From The North Country won two for its two leading ladies, Sheila Atim and Shirley Henderson. Breaking hearts and selling out wherever it lands Girl From The North Country is the one theatrical event not to be missed.

Totally awesome!!!

I thought this show was totally awesome! I can't understand all of the low reviews. This is not a light-hearted musical, but that is not what I expected. This show has a great storyline with the Bob Dylan music enhancing it. All around great cast and strong performances. Stand outs were Jennifer Blood as Elizabeth Laine and Matt Manuel as Joe Scott ... Read more

Open Your Mind To “Girl From the North Country”

“Girl From the North Country” is certainly melancholy & sad, but much more depressing are the reactions that I’m reading here. It’s as if this musical has to conform to more standard musicals because of a refusal to view it on any other terms or to recognize what it tries to accomplish. This is a mood piece, a musical tone poem, and its kaleidoscope of lonely, alienated characters face a time of misery. It has some of the greatness of “Our Town,” and its multitude of overlapping characters trying to survive in their own way reminded me of a Robert Altman movie. More important than the plight of each character is the summation of all of them — the mood that is cast through staging and these reworked, plaintive, stripped down Bob Dylan songs. This show aches…that doesn’t mean it’s a one-star show. Instead of harping on your disappointment with the “story,” perhaps you should ask a more important question borrowed from one of the great musical poets of our time: “How Does It Feel?” ... Powerfully Moving

An incredibly powerful and moving story. The vocals and acting were outstanding. Diyan’s songs are not the highlight. Rather the somber lyrics effectively reflect the mood and backdrop of the characters’ struggles. This play demands, and earns, your full attention from beginning to end.. well done ... Read more
